EMU Productions is an Academy Award nominated production company based in Dublin, Ireland. It was set up in 2007 by Eimear O’Kane with the purpose of producing a range of high quality television and feature films.

Since then, EMU has produced three feature films; The Shadows, The Looking Glass and Satellites & Meteorites, two series of a mockumentary; Fran Series 1 & 2 and two short films; Corduroy & Pentecost.

The Shadows (2013) is a fantasy film adapted from the original story by George MacDonald and aimed at a family audience. Directed by Colin Downey, it follows the adventures of a lonely young boy called Matthew who discovers a magical world hidden at the bottom of his grandmother’s garden. In this mysterious world Matthew befriends the Shadow People who help him to find his inner courage and defeat the evil witch Geldren. The Shadows was entirely funded by The Irish Film Board and made under their Micro Budget Scheme. In July 2013, the world premiere of The Shadows took place at the Galway Film Fleadh.

The Looking Glass (2010) is a dark and surreal fantasy-thriller following a troubled young man called Paul as struggles to cope with his impending fatherhood and the memories from his own childhood that continue to torment him.  The Looking Glass was written and directed by Colin Downey and produced under the Irish Film Board/ Bord Scannán na hÉireann Micro Budget Scheme. It has screened at the Galway Film Fleadh, Corona Cork Film Festival and Melbourne Underground Festival amongst others. It is available online and on DVD through www.brinkvision.com from 19th November 2013.

Satellites & Meteorites (co-produced with i-Wire Films) is a romantic drama that unfolds in the subconscious minds of two coma patients who fall in love with one another. Written and directed by Rick Larkin, Satellites and Meteorites is distributed by High Point Media Group and has picked up a number of awards around the world including ‘Best Editing’ at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, ‘Best Film’ at the Washougal International Film Festival and the ‘Grand Jury Prize’ at the Santa Cruz Film Festival.

The mockumentary series Fran follows the trials and tribulations of the hapless Fran Costello, assistant manager to the amateur football team St Peter’s. The show was broadcast on Setanta Ireland, Setanta Australia & Setanta North America plus Ireland’s commercial television station TV3. Short film Corduroy is a poignant story about the healing powers of the sea seen through the eyes of a young autistic woman. Written & directed by Hugh O’Conor, Corduroy was officially selected for the 60th Berlinale Festival and won the award for ‘Best Experimental Film’ at the Clones Film Festival.

Academy Award nominated short film Pentecost was written and directed by Peter McDonald. It has screened in 45 film festivals around the world and has picked up a number of awards including ‘Best Irish Short Film’ at the Corona Cork Film Festival, ‘Best Short Film’ at the Chicago Irish Film Festival, ‘Best First Short Film’ at the Galway Film Fleadh, a nomination for ‘Best Short Film’ at the IFTAs, ‘Best Screenplay’ at 24FPS Film Festival in Texas culminating in an Academy Award nomination in February 2011.

EMU Productions plan to build upon their current slate of projects and to continue producing interesting and quality content.
